Comet McNaught Over New Zealand

NASA APOD · Minoru Yoneto
COSMIC MESSAGE

Comet McNaught became one of the most photographed comets of our time. After its mid-January appearance in the Northern Hemisphere, the comet moved south, growing a long, unusual dust tail. This image, taken two weeks ago, captures the comet between Mount Remarkable and Cecil Peak, near Queenstown, New Zealand. The bright comet dominates the right side of the frame.
