M16: Pillars of Creation

COSMIC MESSAGE
This Hubble Space Telescope image from 1995 shows the Eagle Nebula's Pillars of Creation. These light-year-long pillars of molecular hydrogen gas and dust are dense enough for stars to form inside. Intense radiation from bright young stars causes less dense material to evaporate, revealing dense 'evaporating gaseous globules,' or EGGs, which are stellar nurseries.
