Io: The Prometheus Plume

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Jupiter's moon Io, captured by the Galileo spacecraft, shows two active sulfurous plumes. At the top, a bluish plume from Pillan Patera rises 140 kilometers above the surface. Near the center, the ring-shaped Prometheus plume reaches 75 kilometers high, casting a distinct shadow. Io is the most volcanically active body in our solar system, constantly reshaping its surface.
