NGC 6302: Big, Bright, Bug Nebula
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
NGC 6302, often called the Bug Nebula, is a planetary nebula whose central star has an estimated surface temperature of about 250,000 degrees C. This exceptionally hot star shines brightly in ultraviolet light but is hidden from direct view by a dense torus of dust. This dramatically detailed close-up of the dying star's nebula was recorded by the Hubble Space Telescope. It shows a butterfly-like shape, with two large lobes of gas extending outward from the central star.
