Rotating Earth from Galileo
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The robotic Galileo spacecraft flew past Earth twice on its way to Jupiter, using our planet's gravity to gain speed. During its first flyby in 1990, Galileo captured a silent movie of Earth rotating. This perspective from a departing spacecraft offered a unique view of our home world. It showed our planet as a dynamic, spinning sphere in space.
