Bright Spiral Galaxy M81 in Ultraviolet from Galex
This ultraviolet image of M81, taken by the Galex telescope, highlights the galaxy's hot, young stars. These stars emit more ultraviolet light and are found in active star-forming regions. M81 is a spiral galaxy slightly smaller than our Milky Way, located about 12 million light-years away in Ursa Major. The image reveals where new stars are actively being born in its winding arms.
