COSMIC MESSAGE

The Trifid Nebula, Messier 20, is an easy find in Sagittarius with a small telescope. Visible light pictures show it divided into three parts by dark dust lanes. This infrared image from the Spitzer Space Telescope reveals glowing dust clouds and newborn stars within those lanes. Astronomers used this data to count newborn and embryonic stars.
