The Tidal Tail of NGC 3628

NASA APOD · Steve Mandel (Galaxy Images)
COSMIC MESSAGE

The spiral galaxy NGC 3628, part of the Leo Triplet, is seen here with a spectacular tidal tail stretching 300,000 light-years. This tail is evidence of gravitational interactions with its two neighboring galaxies, M65 and M66. These interactions have also warped NGC 3628's disk.
