COSMIC MESSAGE
NGC 4631, also known as the Whale Galaxy, is a spiral galaxy seen edge-on. It sits about 25 million light-years away in the constellation Canes Venatici. This galaxy is similar in size to our Milky Way, with a slightly distorted wedge shape. Dark interstellar dust clouds, a yellowish core, and young blue star clusters are visible in this detailed image, along with a companion galaxy, NGC 4627, which resembles a hockey stick.
