This image shows the end of a large dust pillar in the Trifid Nebula, with a smaller pillar pointing up and a jet pointing to the left. These pillars, like interstellar mountains, are dense regions of gas and dust that are slowly being eroded by radiation. The pink dots are newly formed low-mass stars within the nebula.
