Glowing hydrogen gas fills this colorful skyscape in Monoceros, the Unicorn. This star-forming region, NGC 2264, is 2,700 light-years away. It mixes reddish emission nebulae, excited by light from newborn stars, with dark interstellar dust clouds. Where dust clouds are near hot, young stars, they reflect starlight, forming blue reflection nebulae.
