Curious Cometary Knots in the Helix Nebula

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Helix Nebula, captured by the Hubble Space Telescope, shows unusual knots of gas and dust. These cometary knots have masses similar to Earth but are several times the size of Pluto's orbit. Their existence was not initially predicted, and their origins are still not well understood, though they are also seen in other planetary nebulae.
