COSMIC MESSAGE
The Tarantula Nebula is a giant star-forming region, more than 1,000 light-years in diameter, within the Large Magellanic Cloud. This expansive mosaic covers a part of the LMC over 6,000 light-years across, with the Tarantula Nebula at the upper left. Within the Tarantula, intense radiation, stellar winds, and supernova shocks from the central star cluster R136 energize the nebular glow and shape its spidery filaments.
