COSMIC MESSAGE
Arp 272, also known as NGC 6050 and IC 1179, shows two large spiral galaxies colliding. This Hubble Space Telescope image, part of the Hubble's 18th-anniversary celebration, shows their linking spiral arms. Located 450 million light-years away in the Hercules Galaxy Cluster, the image spans over 150 thousand light-years. While stars rarely collide directly, their gravitational interactions are dramatic.
