COSMIC MESSAGE
The gegenschein, German for 'counter glow', is a faint glow visible in the night sky directly opposite the Sun. It is sunlight scattered back by small, millimeter-sized interplanetary dust particles. These particles are splinters from asteroids, orbiting in the plane of the planets. This image from Chile shows a particularly spectacular gegenschein.
