Unusual Light Patch Under Phoenix Lander on Mars
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
A week after landing, the Phoenix spacecraft may have already uncovered ice on Mars. This image, taken by the Robotic Arm Camera, shows an unusual light-colored substance in front of a landing pad. While Phoenix was expected to dig for ice, its braking rockets might have exposed this material during descent. Over the coming weeks, Phoenix will photograph and analyze its surroundings to confirm its composition.
