IC 5146: The Cocoon Nebula

COSMIC MESSAGE

The Cocoon Nebula, IC 5146, is a star-forming region about 4,000 light-years away in Cygnus. It spans nearly 15 light-years and contains a newly developing cluster of stars. The nebula glows red from excited hydrogen gas and shows blue reflected starlight, marking the edge of a molecular cloud.
