Forty years ago, in December 1968, the Apollo 8 crew journeyed from Earth to the Moon and back. Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders launched on a Saturn V rocket on December 21. They circled the Moon ten times and returned to Earth on December 27. This mission marked the first time humans traveled to the Moon and photographed Earth from deep space.
