NASA APOD · Drew Sullivan
(Ancient Starlight)
COSMIC MESSAGE
The famous Horsehead Nebula is a dark indentation in the bright streak just to the left of the image center. It's surrounded by a bubble of glowing emission nebula called Barnard's Loop. The origin of this loop is still unknown. Hypotheses include stellar winds from bright Orion stars or supernovas of stars long gone.
