Annular Eclipse: The Ring of Fire

An annular eclipse creates a "ring of fire" when the Moon passes directly in front of the Sun, but is too far away to completely cover it. The center of the Sun appears to be missing, leaving a bright ring around the dark Moon. This particular event was visible from a path across the southern Indian Ocean. From other locations, it looked like the Moon took a bite out of the Sun.
