Mars has two small moons, Phobos and Deimos. This image from the HiRISE camera on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter shows Deimos, the smaller of the two. Deimos is only about 15 kilometers across, making it one of the smallest known moons in the Solar System. It was discovered in 1877 by American astronomer Asaph Hall.
