GRB 090423: The Farthest Explosion Yet Measured
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Last week, NASA's Swift Observatory recorded an explosion so powerful it was seen across the visible universe. This gamma-ray burst, GRB 090423, is the farthest explosion ever detected, with a redshift of 8.2. It occurred only 630 million years after the Big Bang, a time when astronomers had no direct evidence that anything this large could explode.
