The robot spacecraft NEAR-Shoemaker visited asteroid 433 Eros in 2000. It orbited the Sun between Mars and Earth. High-resolution images and laser measurements from NEAR were combined to create this 3D model of the tumbling space rock. NEAR helped scientists learn that Eros is a single, solid body with a uniform composition.
