The Trifid Nebula in Stars and Dust
NASA APOD · Adam Block
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Trifid Nebula, M20, is a photogenic nebula in Sagittarius where stars are actively forming. The red-glowing gas is hydrogen struck by high-energy starlight. Dark dust filaments, formed in the atmospheres of cool giant stars and from supernova debris, lace through the nebula, giving it its distinct three-lobed appearance.
