One-Armed Spiral Galaxy NGC 4725

NASA APOD · Mike Siniscalchi
COSMIC MESSAGE

Most spiral galaxies, including our own, have two or more spiral arms. NGC 4725, however, appears to have only one tightly wound arm. This sharp color image shows that arm traced by bluish, newborn star clusters. The galaxy also has dust lanes, a prominent ring, and a yellowish central bar of older stars.
