COSMIC MESSAGE
Betelgeuse is a massive star, one of the largest and brightest known, and it is slowly evaporating. The Very Large Telescope in Chile captured this sharp image, resolving the star's face and a large, previously unknown plume of surrounding gas. This red supergiant is a familiar orange fixture in the constellation Orion, easily visible to the unaided eye.
