Irregular galaxy NGC 55 is about 6 million light-years away and is part of the Sculptor Galaxy Group. It is seen nearly edge-on, appearing as a flattened, narrow patch of light. Spanning about 50,000 light-years, it is thought to be similar in structure to the Large Magellanic Cloud. This deep exposure shows its detailed features.
