Saturn's Iapetus: Painted Moon
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Saturn's moon Iapetus has vast sections that are as dark as coal and others as bright as ice. The dark material's composition is unknown, but infrared spectra suggest it might contain a dark form of carbon. Iapetus also has an unusual equatorial ridge that makes it resemble a walnut. The Cassini spacecraft made a close flyby to study this unique moon.
