A Roll Cloud Over Uruguay
NASA APOD · roll cloud
COSMIC MESSAGE
A roll cloud, like this one over Uruguay, is a rare type of cloud that forms near advancing cold fronts. Downdrafts from a storm front can cause moist, warm air to rise and cool, creating the cloud. These clouds are distinct from shelf clouds and do not develop into tornadoes.
