A Meteor Moment

COSMIC MESSAGE
This intensely bright fireball meteor flashed across the Karkas Mountains in central Iran. It occurred during the peak of the annual Geminid Meteor Shower. The photographer captured the meteor and wintery nightscape with a tripod-mounted camera, its shutter open for about 1.5 minutes. During this time, stars traced short, arcing trails due to Earth's rotation.
