MACS 1206: A Galaxy Cluster Gravitational Lens

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Galaxy clusters can act as gravitational lenses, bending the light from more distant galaxies. This image from the Hubble Space Telescope shows the cluster MACS J1206.2-0847. It is lensing a yellow-red background galaxy into a large arc on the right, a result of the cluster's immense gravity.
