Cygnus: Bubble and Crescent

NASA APOD · Wissam Ayoub
COSMIC MESSAGE

These clouds of gas and dust drift through the rich star fields of the Milky Way, toward the constellation Cygnus. The image shows the Soap Bubble Nebula in the lower left and the Crescent Nebula in the upper right. Both formed in the final stages of a star's life. The Crescent Nebula, also known as NGC 6888, was shaped as its central Wolf-Rayet star, WR 136, shed its outer layers in a powerful stellar wind.
