Vesta Rocks

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

These colorful images show thin slices of meteorites, viewed through a polarizing microscope. They are part of the HED group, named for their mineral content, and likely originated from asteroid 4 Vesta. Their visible and infrared spectra match Vesta's, supporting the hypothesis that these space rocks are indeed fragments of that small world.
