NGC 6946 is a face-on spiral galaxy, about 10 million light-years away in the constellation Cepheus. Its colors shift from the yellowish light of old stars in the core to blue star clusters and reddish star-forming regions in its spiral arms. The galaxy is also bright in infrared light and has a high rate of new star formation.
