M1: The Crab Nebula from Hubble
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
This is the Crab Nebula, the remnant of a supernova seen in 1054 AD. It is filled with mysterious filaments that appear to have less mass than expelled in the original supernova. The filaments also have a higher speed than expected from a free explosion. This Hubble Space Telescope image spans about 10 light-years.
