COSMIC MESSAGE
Alpha Centauri is our Sun's closest star system, just 4.3 light-years away. This illustration imagines a view from that system, with our Sun appearing as a bright star in the background of the Milky Way. The crescent in the foreground represents a planet, Alpha Centauri Bb, which was reported to orbit Alpha Centauri B. This exoplanet was detected using the HARPS instrument, a high-precision spectrograph.
