In 1984, astronaut Dale A. Gardner used the Manned Maneuvering Unit to capture the Westar 6 satellite high above Earth. The satellite had suffered a rocket malfunction, preventing it from reaching its intended geosynchronous orbit. Gardner is seen here attaching a control device to the rotating satellite.
