Orion Nebula in Oxygen, Hydrogen, and Sulfur
NASA APOD · Csar Blanco Gonzlez
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Orion Nebula is a nearby stellar nursery, about 1500 light-years away in the same spiral arm as our Sun. Its glowing gas surrounds hot young stars at the edge of a massive interstellar molecular cloud. Many of the filamentary structures in this image are shock waves. These occur where fast-moving material collides with slower gas.
