Large Sunspots Now Crossing the Sun
NASA APOD · Damian Peach
COSMIC MESSAGE
One of the largest sunspot regions in recent years is currently crossing the Sun. This area of convoluted magnetic fields could produce a solar flare. Such a flare might release a cloud of energetic particles into the Solar System. If a powerful cloud impacts Earth's magnetosphere, it could be dangerous for astronauts and satellites, or create picturesque aurora.
