The Magellan spacecraft used radar to map Venus's surface between 1990 and 1994, revealing a landscape of volcanic features. This computer reconstruction shows some of the large circular domes, typically 25 kilometers across, that Magellan discovered. These domes are thought to be formed by volcanism, though the exact mechanism is still being studied.
