The Quiet Sagittarius A*
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The supermassive black hole at the center of our Milky Way, known as Sagittarius A*, is surrounded by hot gas that it struggles to consume. This composite image combines infrared (red and yellow) and X-ray (blue) data, primarily from the Chandra X-ray telescope. The diffuse emission around the black hole, spanning about half a light-year, is visible in the close-up inset. This provides insight into how black holes interact with their immediate environment.
