COSMIC MESSAGE

On October 19th, Comet Siding Spring will pass within 132,000 kilometers of Mars, a near miss equivalent to just over one-third the Earth-Moon distance. This inbound visitor was discovered in January 2013 by Robert McNaught at Australia's Siding Spring Observatory. This telescopic snapshot from August 2014 shows the comet now.
