NGC 6823: Cloud Sculpting Star Cluster

NASA APOD · Donald P. Waid (Waid Observatory)
COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 6823 is an open star cluster that is actively forming new stars from gas clouds. The cluster's center, visible in the upper right, formed about two million years ago and contains many bright, young blue stars. The pillars of gas and dust in NGC 6820, at the image's center, are sculpted by the intense radiation from these hot, young stars.
