Solar active region AR2192 was the largest sunspot group recorded in 24 years. Before rotating off the Earth-facing side of the Sun, it produced six powerful X-class flares. The Solar Dynamics Observatory captured its most intense flare on October 24, shown here in a combination of three extreme ultraviolet wavelengths.
