COSMIC MESSAGE
The W-shaped ridge of emission in this image is known as the Cygnus Wall, part of the larger North America Nebula. This cosmic ridge spans about 20 light-years. The image was constructed using narrowband data, which highlights the reddish glow from ionized hydrogen atoms. It follows an ionization front, revealing fine details of dark, dusty forms silhouetted against the bright gas, sculpted by energetic radiation from massive young stars.
