A Blue Moon Halo over Antarctica

NASA APOD · LI Hang
COSMIC MESSAGE

This rare image captures a halo surrounding a blue moon over Antarctica. A blue moon is the second full moon in a calendar month. The halo, a 22-degree ring around the Moon, is caused by ice crystals in Earth's atmosphere. Both phenomena are uncommon, making this combined observation particularly special.
