Dark Sand Cascades on Mars
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
These dark brown streaks on Mars might look like trees, but they are actually sand cascades. Photographed by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, they appear on melting pinkish sand dunes covered with light frost. As the spring Sun melts the carbon dioxide ice, dark sand on the interior of the dunes becomes visible and cascades down, leaving these streaks.
