Philadelphia Perigee Full Moon

NASA APOD · Catching the Light
COSMIC MESSAGE

A supermoon sets over Philadelphia in this twilight shot from November 14. This particular full moon occurred within hours of lunar perigee, its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit. While appearing slightly larger and brighter at perigee, the moon's shape is distorted by atmospheric refraction near the horizon. This effect is similar to how ordinary full moons appear when viewed low in the sky.
