The Lagoon Nebula in High Definition

COSMIC MESSAGE
The Lagoon Nebula, also known as M8, is a star-forming region in Sagittarius. The red-glowing gas results from high-energy starlight striking interstellar hydrogen. Dark dust filaments, created in the atmospheres of cool giant stars and from supernova debris, lace through the nebula. This photogenic nebula is visible even without binoculars.
