Penumbral Eclipse Rising
NASA APOD · Bill Jelen
COSMIC MESSAGE
As seen from Cocoa Beach Pier, Florida, the Moon rose at sunset on February 10. It was gliding through Earth's faint outer shadow during a penumbral lunar eclipse. This digital stack of seaside exposures captures the event. While the penumbral shadow is lighter than the planet's umbral shadow, the limb of the Moon still grew dim during this eclipse.
